Creepy #40 Cover Original Art (Warren Publ., 1971). The science-fiction period of Creepy, branching out from its early focus on Gothic horror, yielded this fine large-scale exercise in big-calibre suspense from Underground Comix pioneers Todd and Bodé, respectively also known for Dr. Atomic and Cheech Wizard. The space-suited rifleman takes aim -- even though an antagonist already has him in the cross-hairs. The painting, titled "Telescope," consists of layered acrylics on illustration board, measuring out at a whopping 18.25" x 28.5". The surrounding dark space was designed to accommodate the book's logotype and story billing. One finds adhesive residue in the upper image area, tape on the right edge, abrasions in the margins, corner dings and layer separation, surface scuffing and wear, and edge/handling wear. Sold
